About the Role:
Housing Advocacy Vocational and Employment is looking for a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional with Amharic language skills to join our team in Silver Spring, MD. Responsibilities:
- Provide direct care and daily living support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities
- Communicate effectively with Amharic-speaking clients and their families to ensure culturally competent care
- Assist clients with personal hygiene, meal preparation, and household tasks
- Support individuals in community integration, vocational activities, and social engagement
- Document and maintain accurate client progress notes and incident reports
- Implement individualized support plans (ISPs) in collaboration with care teams
- Transport and accompany clients to appointments, programs, and community outings
Requirements:
- Fluency in Amharic (spoken and/or written) is required
- Prior experience as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), caregiver, or in a related human services role preferred
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Strong interpersonal skills with a patient, empathetic, and person-centered approach
- CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
