The Target Pay Range for this position is $88,000 - $110,000 annually. At Antech, pay decisions are determined using factors such as relevant job-related skills, experience, education, training and budget.

Job Purpose/Overview

The Scientist will be responsible for the design, execution, optimization, and validation of immunoassays for use in veterinary diagnostic testing.This position requires a solid foundation of technical skills and the ability to analyze data, solve problems, and support cross-functional efforts including technology transfer into manufacturing. This role will also oversee the incoming biological material screening and QC testing.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Candidate will work with our Veterinary Diagnostics Team in its efforts to develop and validate new diagnostic products. Job duties will include collaboration with other Antech departments, assisting with the communication of project progress to corporate partners, and, after being well-established in the job, mentoring and providing technical directions to Research Assistants.

  • Responsible for developing and validating diagnostic tests. Provides input with experimental designs and processes to ensure compliance and high-quality output.
  • Provides thorough analyses of data and effectively communicates results to the team. 
  • Provides leadership and management to lower-level team staff, translating business goals into actionable development plans and assigning tasks and projects to qualified team members. 
  • Provide technical assistance within product development core teams acting as a technical lead on project teams. Support tech transfers of products from Laboratories to manufacturing.
  • Author protocols, study reports, SOPs and other documents in support of process changes/optimization.
  • Perform complex troubleshooting to assess and correct product malfunctions. Investigate process deviations and conduct root-cause analysis for implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Facilitate USDA licensing process and perform the studies required for USDA licensing process.
  • Perform quality control activities, including QC documents, QC testing, and incoming QC testing of biological and critical components.
  • Participates on special projects and assignments as assigned and/ or required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s in biology, chemistry, veterinary science or similar field and four (4) years prior experience or PhD in directly related field and 0 – two (2) years’ prior experience. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience applying analytical skills in experimental design and knowledge of statistical data analysis.
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques, including bioconjugations, immunoassay development and protein purification (HPLC experience is a plus).
  • Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to effectively “translate” scientific and technical information to others. 
  • An understanding of veterinary diagnostics, testing and/or care practices is not a requirement, but is preferred.

Working Conditions

The associate is regularly required to apply manual dexterity, including hand/wrist flexibility, for computer keyboarding.  The associate frequently is required to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.  The associate is frequently required to hear and speak in order to use the telephone, make presentations and communicate with people in an office environment.  The associate is occasionally required to sit and stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch.  The associate must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

The associate will primarily work in a typical office environment including the use of cubicles, computers and overhead lighting. Temperature extremes will be minimal to nonexistent.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  The associate will be required to use a computer, spreadsheets, data base management, email, and the Internet.  The associate is frequently required to use a calculator; fax, copy machine, and phone system.  The associate must occasionally use media equipment such as an overhead projector, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Teams. 

Laboratory personnel will be trained to work in Biosafety Level 2 laboratory settings and are required to follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements. Lab process equipment may include analyzing and testing tools and the usage of chemicals and reagents. Lifting/carrying up to 25 pounds and process monitoring via visual inspection.
