Westport Axle Co., a subsidiary of Universal Logistics Holdings, Inc., is a leading transportation and third‑party logistics provider offering a broad range of services throughout the supply chain. Our team uses modern technology and deep industry experience to deliver customized logistics solutions that improve efficiency and reduce cost for our customers.

Our operation is based in Roanoke, VA and supports Volvo’s manufacturing activities in the area. We manage and operate production‑support, warehousing, and inventory‑management functions to ensure accurate material flow and efficient day‑to‑day operations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct time studies to evaluate current processes and identify productivity and efficiency improvements
  • Lead and support cross‑functional improvement initiatives using APQP‑based project reporting
  • Participate in FMEA development by monitoring, reducing, and resolving high‑risk priority numbers (RPNs)
  • Support corrective action (CAR) processes by identifying root causes and implementing process improvements
  • Maintain and update plant layouts using CAD tools to reflect workflow, equipment, or process changes
  • Identify and recommend improvement opportunities independently and in collaboration with the Quality Manager
  • Support manufacturing operations through the application of lean principles to reduce waste and labor inefficiencies
  • Coordinate with vendors on tooling design, quoting, and implementation to meet production requirements
  • Represent the company professionally during customer or supplier interactions
  • Support Quality and Environmental Management Systems and maintain confidentiality of proprietary and customer information
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Experience conducting time studies and process analysis
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
  • CAD experience (AutoCAD or similar) for plant layout and process flow updates
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and lead cross‑functional teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment

Preferred

  • Experience with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement initiatives
  • Familiarity with APQP, FMEA, control plans, and corrective action processes
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 quality standards
  • Manufacturing or automotive industry experience
  • Forklift or PIT certification
