Position Summary

THIS IS A 9 MONTH FACULTY CONTRACT. COMPENSATION IS ISSUED OVER A 12 MONTH PERIOD.
Summer classes are paid on a per credit hour basis and not part of the 9-month contract.

Under general supervision, coordinate and instruct in a community college associate degree program in Welding. Lead in developing and revising curricula, managing laboratory facilities and equipment assigned to the program, and providing theory and laboratory instruction to students. Duties are performed in the context of a comprehensive community college; understanding of the community college mission and philosophy will be critical to success.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Determine proposed curricula and teach courses in safety, Mig, Tig and Arc welding, metallurgy and specialized courses.

  • Provide professional training leading to careers in the field. 

  • Teach in an intensive full-time program leading to the Associate of Applied Science degree or Certificate of Completion in Welding. 

  • Teach specialized classes for other career-technical programs and incumbent worker training.

  • Initiate and lead program recruitment activities on behalf of the college and coordinate a functioning advisory committee for the program. 

  • Fulfill all functions of a faculty member, including those related to teaching, faculty service, assessment of student achievement and professional development. 

  • Assist in assessing the job market and helping students obtain employment in the field. 

  • Supervise cooperative education experiences as needed. 

  • Participate in college-wide studies and projects, providing information as requested. 

  • Demonstrate or actively work to attain proficiency with such technologies as may be useful in instruction, including personal computers, presentation software, and computer generated tutorials.

  • Participate in distance delivery of college courses and programs if applicable. 

  • Procure necessary supplies for department. 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS:

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about, continuous use of fine motor skills, and pushing and pulling of up to 50 lbs. Reaching above the shoulders.

SCHEDULE DETAILS:  

Hours vary based on course requirements. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • This position requires a minimum of three years work experience in the Welding field. 

  • American Welding Society certificates or ability to acquire require within 18 months of hire date.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AWS Certified Welding Educator license 

  • Associate Degree in CTE or related field  

  • Teaching experience in a community college or technical school is preferred. 

  • Additional credentials or certificates in vocational education, welding, and metal fabrication construction would be beneficial.
