Position Summary

Under general supervision, the Automotive Technology Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality classroom and laboratory instruction in automotive systems, diagnostics, maintenance, and repair. The instructor prepares students for entry-level employment in the automotive industry and/or continued education by integrating industry standards, hands-on learning, and safety practices into instruction. Participate in orientation, committees, councils, in-service, student advisement, professional development activities and graduation. Maintain and repair CCC vehicles.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Teach automotive technology courses using lecture, demonstration, and hands‑on laboratory instruction in areas such as engine performance, brakes, steering and suspension, electrical systems, HVAC, and preventative maintenance.
  • Design and deliver rigorous, engaging instruction aligned with program, college, and industry standards.
  • Develop and maintain course syllabi, lesson plans, assessments, and instructional materials that support student mastery of learning outcomes.
  • Incorporate active‑learning strategies and integrate workplace professionalism, including communication, attendance, initiative, and responsible tool and technology use.
  • Maintain all standards and record keeping required for Master Accreditation from Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation. Submit accreditation reports and participate in accreditation visits.
  • Use instructional technologies effectively, including computers, presentation tools, digital tutorials, and the learning management system.
  • Evaluate student performance through appropriate assessments, lab work, and exams; provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a respectful, inclusive, and professional learning environment in both classroom and lab settings.
  • Advise and mentor students regarding academic progress, career pathways, and employability skills.
  • Hold regular office hours and support students in achieving successful course and program completion.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and effective laboratory environment, ensuring proper use and care of tools, equipment, and instructional spaces.
  • Procure necessary supplies and materials to support instruction and lab operations.
  • Follow departmental syllabi, textbooks, policies, and procedures, including communicating course expectations at the start of each term.
  • Participate in curriculum development, program review, and accreditation processes to support continuous improvement.
  • Attend required department and school meetings and complete duties assigned by the Department Chair or Dean of Instruction
  • Collaborate with industry partners to support internships, job placement, and workforce alignment.
  • Assist with organizing and running advisory committee meetings and contribute to departmental initiatives.
  • Teach in the assigned modality and maintain accurate records, including attendance and grades, submitted by published deadlines.
  • Model professional conduct and enforce student conduct policies in accordance with CCC standards.
  • Participate in convocation, graduation, and CCC‑sponsored events that support institutional engagement.
  • Maintain required licensures, certifications, and professional development hours to remain current in both automotive technology and instructional best practices.
  • Engage in college service, including committees, councils, orientation, registration, and in-service activities.
  • Exhibit conduct that reflects the mission, vision, and values of Clovis Community College and the broader community.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Requires frequent and continuous sitting/moving about, continuous use of fine motor skills, and pushing, pulling and lifting of up to 50 lbs.

SCHEDULE DETAILS:  

Hours vary based on course requirements. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • ASE Certificates or knowledge of ASE certification standards and/or other industry related certification(s)

  • Three years of related automotive/industry work

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching experience in a community college or technical school is preferred. 

  • Associates degree with emphasis in Automotive Technology and/or Vocational Education
