ABOUT THIS ROLE

Wawona Frozen Foods is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant with food and/or agricultural experience preferred but optional. Reporting to the Controller, the individual is responsible for the daily accounting activities of the company. This hands-on role will also provide ongoing financial and analytical support to all functional business areas with high exposure to senior management.

 

DUTIES INCLUDE

  • Participate actively in Wawona Frozen Foods' Safety program to maintain a healthy, injury-free environment.
  • Compliance with all GMP, HAACP, Food Safety, Food Defense, and SQF policies and procedures. Empowered to notify and/or act in response to any issues or concerns within the scope of work.
  • Participate in training and company meetings to facilitate individual and company growth.
  • General Ledger:
    • Perform timely preparation of monthly journal entries.
    • Assist with compilation and review of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations for timely completion.
    • Manage prepaid accounts' monthly journal entries and reconciliations.
    • Review the preparation of the fixed asset schedules.
    • Prepare and review journal entries for intercompany transactions.
    • Assisted with sales reporting requirements and prepared commission calculations.
  • Maintain the month-end close checklist; track and compile documents as needed for the monthly close checklist.
  • Prepare month-end financial statements and management reporting packages.
  • Conduct financial analysis, including budget versus actual analysis and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Prepare schedules and reports for tax compliance and filings.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
  • Assist with preparation for annual audit performed by an independent accounting firm.
  • Cross-train with other roles in the department for coverage as needed.
  • Review and recommend modifications to accounting systems and play an active role in accounting process improvements and automation.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in an accounting role, preferably in food manufacturing, agriculture or manufacturing
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated organizational capabilities, detail-oriented, and the ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent analytical and thinking skills to anticipate and identify issues and information requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent listening skills and strong communication skills.
  • A strong work ethic and a "can do" attitude.
  • Self-motivated and self-starter.
  • Ability to create and support team morale.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, One Drive)
  • ERP software experience required: Business Central, Navision, or Dynamics.
  • CPA preferred
  • Must possess a valid California driver's license.

PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

  • Work in an environment where there can be medium to loud noise and cold temperatures in production areas.
  • Frequent stand and walk, and use of hands, fingers, and arms to pull, reach, twist, and lift-ability to sit and use a computer for most of your day.
  • Will spend most of the day seated using computers.
  • Other duties as assigned require repetitive tasks, duties, or assignments.
  • Work flexible/varying schedules to support the team and deadlines.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
