Description

The position will operate computerized and manual radiological equipment for diagnostic purposes as ordered by the physician. 


JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares patients for radiological procedures. Takes X-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety.
  • Explaining x-ray procedures to patients and answering their questions.
  • Positioning patients accordingly, which may include lifting and moving patients with limited mobility.
  • Limiting patients' exposure to radiation by placing lead shields on patients where needed.
  • Ensuring that the x-rays taken are of sound quality to prevent repeat procedures.
  • Ensuring that the x-ray equipment is regularly serviced and in good working order.
  • Promptly notifying management of damaged or malfunctioning x-ray equipment.
  • Logs Radiologic procedures completed. Processes routine paper work. Types and files reports as requested.
  • Maintains examination rooms. Stocks necessary medical and Radiologic supplies. 
  • Develops and processes Radiologic film. Delivers, picks up and returns films.
  • Attends required staff and educational meetings.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Other duties as assigned to meet company standards. 



Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of an approved AMA School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Current State C.R.T. license, A.R.R.T. Certified preferred.

Experience

  • At least one year of X-ray Tech experience preferred. 
  • Skill in properly positioning patient, identifying equipment problems, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination for operation assists of all department equipment.
  • Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Assists patients weighing up to 300 pounds and place them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment.
  • Requires eyesight correctable, close to 20/20 to operate department equipment and review developed films. 

Performance Requirements:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology to perform X-ray testing. 
  •  Knowledge of radiology equipment and safety hazards common to radiology including equipment, body mechanics, and patient movement.
  • Knowledge of basic medical practices, terminology.
  • Knowledge of a variety of medical office procedures, laboratory and testing procedures.

Skills: 

  • Skill in properly positioning patient, identifying equipment problems, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, delegating and supervising.
  • Skill in evaluating the effectiveness of existing methods and procedures.
  • Skill in problem solving.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.

Abilities:

  • Ability to interact with patients, medical and administrative staff, and the public effectively. 
  • Ability to set priorities among multiple requests.

Physical Requirements:

  • Involves sitting approximately 80 percent of the day, walking or standing the remainder. Some bending, stooping, and lifting up to 15 pounds.

Equipment Operated:

  • Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.

Work Environment:

  • Position in a well-lighted medical office environment. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, biohazards, and other conditions common in a medical office setting. Frequent contract with a variety of people.
