Summary 

The electrician is responsible for troubleshooting complex control circuits and must demonstrate competency in induction and synchronous motors, transformers, capacitors, battery systems, lighting and power circuits. The electrician will utilize test equipment in the detection of voltage, current, resistance, leakage, circuit tracing, ground detection, and electronic component troubleshooting.  Installation of electrical systems from conduit installation through conductor termination.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience with a state license or NCCER certification with 2 years journeyman experience is required. 
  • Ability to install equipment, machines, wiring, or programs to meet specifications. 
  • Ability to read safety JHA’s, maintenance of shop tools, methods and procedures that are present on drawings, and layout work.  
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical drawings. 
  • Basic math skills are required to calculate surface area.
  • Knowledge of the NEC related to industrial installation and thorough understanding of electrical safe work practices and NFPA 70e in relation to electrical work.  
  • Ability to troubleshoot operating errors and decide corrective action. 
  • Ability to determine the appropriate tools and/or equipment needed to perform a job. 
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and communicate in English. 
  • Valid TWIC required
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License with minimal infractions.
  • Cell phone communication and on-call availability are required. 

Essential Functions

  • Install power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment following electrical code and blueprints, using hand tools and a voltage tester. 
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables and wires to machines and equipment, following manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints, using hand tools and test equipment.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and fixtures using test equipment.
  • Repair or replace faulty electric components, wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using appropriate hand tools and power tools. 
  • Test malfunctioning or broken equipment using test equipment and discuss malfunction with other workers to diagnose malfunction.  
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, electrical devices, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. 
  • Field route and support conduit, cable trays or tubing, in racks and buildings as needed and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit and raceways.     
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. 
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
  • Other duties as assigned 

Physical Demands

Must be able to climb, bend, sit, walk, kneel, crawl, stand, push, and pull frequently.  Must maintain 3-point contact while climbing ladders. Ability to lift 5-25 pounds frequently and ability to lift, up to, 50 pounds occasionally. Must be able to wear the following safety equipment when needed; life vests, ear protection, rubber gloves, leather gloves, hard hat, slicker suit, acid suit, rubber gloves, full face breathing mask, wearing full safety harness, or wearing a face shield. The heavy work will require exertion of up to 100 pounds of force occasionally.
