Responsibilities
- Perform welding, cutting, brazing, and fabrication on heavy highway construction projects
- Repair and modify heavy construction equipment, attachments, and tools
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and welding symbols
- Set up and operate welding equipment (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, Oxy‑Fuel, Plasma)
- Ensure welds meet applicable codes, specifications, and quality standards
- Conduct pre‑ and post‑weld inspections and perform necessary repairs
- Work closely with foremen, operators, and laborers to support field operations
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, and work areas in safe working condition
- Follow all company, OSHA, and DOT safety policies and procedures
- Perform grinding, cutting, torch work, and general metal fabrication as needed
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on active construction sites
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Minimum 3–5 years of welding experience in heavy civil, highway, or industrial construction
- Proficient in structural and field welding techniques
- Ability to pass welding tests as required (AWS, DOT, or company standards)
- Experience welding carbon steel; experience with stainless or specialty metals a plus
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and welding symbols
- Valid driver’s license required; CDL a plus
- Must be able to lift 50+ lbs and perform physical labor throughout the workday
- Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends as project schedules requires
