Position Summary:

The Advanced Mechatronic / Robotic Technician is responsible for supporting, troubleshooting, maintaining, and improving automated manufacturing systems, robotic equipment, controls, and electromechanical production assets. This role combines advanced mechanical, electrical, controls, robotics, and automation knowledge to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment.


This position will work closely with Maintenance, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, and EHS teams to minimize downtime, improve equipment performance, support continuous improvement initiatives, and ensure compliance with company safety and operational standards.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain automated manufacturing equipment, robotic cells, PLC-controlled systems, servo drives, sensors, vision systems, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, and other mechatronic equipment.
  • Diagnose complex electrical, mechanical, robotic, and controls-related failures using schematics, ladder logic, diagnostic software, manuals, and test equipment.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on robotic and automated production systems.
  • Support robotic programming, touch-up points, recovery procedures, end-of-arm tooling adjustments, and automation process optimization.
  • Assist with PLC troubleshooting and minor program modifications under established company controls and authorization procedures.
  • Maintain and improve HMI interfaces, sensors, safety circuits, machine guarding systems, and industrial communication networks.
  • Support installation, commissioning, validation, and start-up of new automated equipment and robotic systems.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to identify opportunities for cycle time reduction, scrap reduction, uptime improvement, and process stability.
  • Respond quickly to production downtime events and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Document repairs, maintenance activities, equipment changes, root cause findings, and spare parts usage in the maintenance management system.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, pneumatic diagrams, hydraulic diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, electrical safety standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Train or mentor maintenance technicians, operators, and production personnel on equipment operation, basic troubleshooting, and robotic recovery procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement, Lean manufacturing, 5S, and equipment reliability initiatives.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree, technical diploma, apprenticeship, or equivalent training in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Technology, Automation, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field.
  • 3–5+ years of experience maintaining automated manufacturing equipment, robotic systems, or complex electromechanical equipment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and controls systems.
  • Experience working with PLC-controlled equipment and industrial automation systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of industrial safety practices, including lockout/tagout and machine guarding.
  • Ability to use multimeters, calibration tools, laptop-based diagnostic software, and other troubleshooting equipment.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and respond effectively to production needs.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial robots such as FANUC, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa Motoman, Universal Robots, or similar platforms.
  • Experience with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, or Mitsubishi.
  • Familiarity with HMIs, VFDs, servo systems, machine vision, industrial networks, and safety PLCs.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing, machining, assembly, motion control, aerospace, or industrial production environments.
  • Certification in robotics, mechatronics, electrical maintenance, or automation technology.
  • Experience with CMMS systems and structured root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, TPM, 5S, and continuous improvement methods.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is required to walk, stand, stoop, bend, crawl, climb and sit for extended periods of time. The team member is required to demonstrate manual dexterity and use hands to operate machinery. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Also expected of the team member is regular attendance and the ability to work cooperatively and professionally with others. May be required to lift up to 50 lbs.
