JOB TITLE: Quality Systems Specialist

SUMMARY:
The Quality Systems Specialist is a technical role responsible for executing critical inspection processes and maintaining the integrity of the Quality Management System (QMS). Unlike generalist quality roles, this position requires specific technical proficiency in Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) and advanced Metrology to support engineering and manufacturing operations. The Specialist will ensure products meet AS9100 standards through direct inspection, process validation, and data analysis.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI): Perform NDI on critical aircraft components and assemblies. Maintain NDI process qualifications and ensure all inspections comply with engineering specifications and safety standards.
- Metrology Management: Manage the company-wide Metrology program, including the calibration schedule of all precision tools and the validation of complex measurement systems.
- Technical Process Design: Collaborate with engineering to develop and validate technical quality processes, ensuring inspectability of new designs.
- AS9100 Compliance: Assist in the maintenance of the AS9100 Quality Standard Certification, specifically regarding the control of monitoring and measuring resources.
- Root Cause Analysis: Collect and verify technical data to support the identification of root causes for non-conformances. Lead technical investigations into manufacturing defects.
- Audit Support: Conduct internal hardware, software, and system-level audits to determine compliance with customer and regulatory requirements.
- Data Analysis: Compile quality data and prepare reports for the CTO and Engineering leadership to drive continuous improvement.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
- Required: Proficiency in Non-Destructive Inspection (NDI) methods (Liquid Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, etc.).
- Required: Strong working knowledge of Metrology and calibration standards (ISO 10012 or ANSI/NCSL Z540).
- Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) including pivot tables and data analysis.
- Experience with Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Working knowledge of AS9100 Rev D requirements.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or engineering discipline.
- Acceptable in Lieu of Degree: 7+ years of progressive technical experience in aerospace quality, specifically including hands-on experience with NDI and Metrology.
- Certifications in NDI (Level II) or Quality Engineering (CQE) are highly preferred.
