Job DetailsJob Location: Public Works - Cocoa Beach, FL 32931GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under direct supervision, performs semi-skilled and unskilled work to assist in the maintenance and cleaning of City grounds and equipment. Work involves the maintenance and landscaping of City grounds; application of herbicides and insecticides as needed. Work also includes assisting with the clearing of land for designated areas and sidewalks, setting up and assisting with special events, and trash removal in assigned areas. More specifically, ensures that street ends, beachside parks, and street end trash cans are attended to. Reports to the Grounds Maintenance Supervisor. This is a Monday through Friday work week from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM. May be asked to work special events and some holidays if required. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Performs general landscape maintenance duties, including mowing and trimming grass and shrubbery, edging, spraying herbicides and pesticides, and spreading grass seed and fertilizer; polices areas to remove debris and litter. Prepares and maintains grounds; grading and performing general landscaping functions on City property. Must deal with city staff and general public in a positive and professional way. ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS Performs other related work as required. May be required to work during a declared emergency and may be requested to work during an undeclared emergency or in the aftermath of an event associated with a declared emergency. On an incident-by-incident basis, the employee's Department Head or designee will make the determination when the employee will be required to work. Qualifications MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school, and 1 to 2 years’ experience in ground maintenance; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Must have and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS OR STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Physical Requirements: Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including lawn mowers, edgers, tractors, etc. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The job is rated for Medium Work.
