JOB SUMMARY: The Letter Setter is responsible for attaching the proper names, dates and emblems to the memorial patterns according to work order specifications. This position requires a sound understanding of the vast array of lay-outs, designs, products and quality standards that are critical to the production of memorial plates.

Requirements

 WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Utilize the work order to locate and pull the correct pattern based on design and size.
  • Pick the correct emblems, letters and numbers, ranging in size ¼” to 4”, according to order specifications.
  • Use a ruler to accurately measure and draw lines on the pattern to ensure correct placement of text as specified in the layout; ruler is also used for appropriate placement of emblems.
  • Use an eye dropper to place small beads of melted wax in specific positions around the base of each emblem, number and  letter to affix them to the pattern.
  • Use a handheld propane torch, plastic pick, and/or wire brush to make precise adjustments to individual characters, remove excess wax, etc.
  • Inspect (at various stages and multiple times) the pattern carefully and with great attention to detail to ensure there are no spacing or centering issues, crooked characters, gaps under characters that require additional wax and overall aesthetics.
  • Deliver the finished pattern to a cart so that it can be brought to the molding area.
  • Assist with the sorting and inspection of characters and emblems that are returned from molding to determine which can be reused and which need to be recycled.
  • Use scanner for rotating and status entry.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must possess strong abilities to exercise patience, as well as display sustained concentration and endurance in using fine motor skills due to the precise nature of the work required in this position.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to perform a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another, to avoid interruptions in production.
  • Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision.
  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills, with an emphasis in time management, improving efficiencies and   exercising independent judgment to determine work priority and urgency.
  • General math skills.
  • Must be able to read work orders or production tickets, which may include dimensional drawings.
  • Ability to read a tape measure, imperial and metric.
  • Work as a self-motivated team member who adheres to all safety protocols and is willing to cross-train as needed.
  • Linear and spatial perception is a must.
