Job Summary: The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing a variety of equipment including, but not limited to ready-mix concrete trucks, heavy equipment, and pickup trucks to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation. This position requires a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.Â
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose failures using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
- Mechanic must provide their own tools
- Maintain and repair heavy equipment, truck-mounted mixers, on-road fleet vehicles, specialized equipment (crane trucks, boom trucks, pre-cast delivery units) and possible plant maintenance.
- Ensure vehicles meet DOT/MSHA safety and emissions standards.
- Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and inspection reports.
- Respond to road calls and perform emergency repairs as needed.
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and compliant with company and MSHA safety standards.
- Must adhere to all company safety procedures and wear required PPE.
- Operate company vehicles and equipment safely at all times.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Technical certificate or associate degree in mechanical technology or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands-on mechanical repair experience with diesel, earthmoving, or industrial equipment
- Strong understanding of industry diagnostic software such as Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET), Volvo Tech Tool (PTT / Premium Tech Tool), Cummins Insite and Allison DOC
- Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and electro hydraulic controls
- Strong understanding of Allison 4000 series transmissions
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics.
- Proficient with common shop tools.
- Welding, fabrication, and hydraulic systems experience a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, kneeling, stooping, and climbing.
- Work in various weather conditions.
