Job Description Summary

This University Health Center (UHC) physician provides primary and acute care to students, and when appropriate, staff and visitors of the university community. Responsibilities include evaluation and management of common medical conditions in a primary and immediate care setting; preventive care; sexual and reproductive health; gender-affirming care; minor procedures; and management of minor trauma and orthopedic issues. The physician must be proficient in documentation, coding, and working within an insurance-billing environment, including ICD-10 coding, pre-authorizations, and electronic medical record use. This position is designated as essential personnel for campus emergencies.

-Provide comprehensive primary and immediate care, including evaluation and management of acute and chronic medical conditions, preventive care, sexual and reproductive health, gender-affirming care, minor procedures, and management of minor trauma and orthopedic complaints. Order and interpret diagnostic tests. Coordinate referrals and ensure continuity of care. Document all encounters in the electronic medical record in compliance with clinical and billing standards.
-Perform provider responsibilities for medical documentation, coding, peer review, and any task expected to meet legal, billing operations and AAAHC accreditation standards.
-Provide teaching, and consultation with Health Center advanced practice clinicians, and preceptorship for health care trainees (residents, medical students, PA students etc.) assigned to the Health Center.
-Participate in shared after-hours call rotation. Occasional evening/weekend clinic shifts as scheduled. Expected to participate on committees and take leadership roles on behalf of UHC.
-Performs other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:
Physical activity involves more standing, bending, and stooping than the usual office environment. High risk of exposure to infectious disease is inherent in work in a medical setting. Must be able to respond to campus emergencies when designated as essential personnel.

Licenses/ Certifications:
Doctorate of Medicine or Osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school, Board certified with license to practice medicine. Currently holding or eligible for license in the State of Maryland.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Doctorate of Medicine or Osteopathy degree from an accredited medical school.

Experience:  Residency training in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, or Adolescent Medicine. Two (2) years experience in practice post residency.

Other: License to practice medicine in the State of Maryland or license eligible by the agreed upon start date. Board certification required within 1 year of employment. CDS and DEA registrations required. CPR Certification required. License, registrations and certifications must be maintained for the duration of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Knowledge of the practice of medicine pertinent to adult medicine, family medicine, and primary care.

Skill in oral and written communication.

Skill in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.

Skill in the use of Electronic Health Records systems.

Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.

Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service.

Additional Job Details

Preferences:

Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Family Practice preferred.

Experience supporting a diverse population of patients including adolescents and young adults.

Experience managing patients in a primary care setting.
