Job Description Summary
Counseling Center’s Res Life Embedded ClinicianThe Embedded Staff Psychologist/Social Worker/Counselor is a full-time, 12 month clinical position embedded by the Counseling Center in the University of Maryland’s Resident Life Office. The clinician is responsible for developing / gaining expertise about the mental health and well-being related needs of residential students; providing brief assessment, time-limited interventions, and referral services to students; consulting with Resident Life staff; and providing broad outreach and prevention services to the residential student community.
This position reports to the Director of the Counseling Center and their designee (Associate or Assistant Director of the Counseling Center). The position has a dotted line of reporting to the Director of Resident Life or their designee (Associate Director). This clinician will primarily work in person within Resident Life. Some level of remote work may be granted.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide brief assessment and referral to on and off campus mental health resources
Conduct single-session appointment intervention and refer for ongoing care when appropriate
Provide individual therapy services when appropriate and necessary in a limited fashion
Serve as a consultant to Resident Life staff and collaborate with staff to address student mental health and well-being related needs and issues
Develop, implement, and assess outreach and prevention programming specially tailored to the mental health and well-being related needs of the students in Resident Life
Attend staff meetings and supervision meetings at the Counseling Center
Participate in appropriate staff meetings in Resident Life as requested
Participate in joint administrative meetings with the Director of the Counseling Center or their designee and the Director of Resident Life or their designee
Physical Demands: Standard office work
Minimum Qualifications
To be eligible for hire as a Staff Psychologist (exempt salaried 4):
Education: Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five (5) years of clinical practice in total, including experience gained throughout the Educational training.
Licenses/ Certifications: Licensed or license-eligible to practice psychology in the State of Maryland within 1 year from hire.
To be eligible for hire as a Counselor (exempt salaried 2):
Education: Master’s degree from an accredited college or university.Â
Experience: Two (2) years of clinical experience in an ambulatory mental health setting.
Licenses/ Certifications: Licensed or license-eligible as a mental health provider in the State of Maryland.
Other: Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) may also be considered with at least 2000 hours of post-graduate supervised clinical work and the ability to obtain a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical (LCSW-C) or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) license within one year.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of individual and group psychotherapy, counseling, diagnostic assessment, psychological and career testing, consultation, outreach, and crisis intervention.
Knowledge of group psychodynamics and supervision.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.Â
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
