The Role at a Glance

The Director of Environmental Health and Safety, under general direction, provides agency-wide leadership and oversight for the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service Environmental Health and Safety Department. This position directs programs related to safety and health, environmental compliance, safety culture, emergency medical support, emergency coordination, and business continuity.

The Director leads managers and professional staff responsible for the TEEX Safety Program, Safety Committee, emergency medical support for high-risk training, and environmental compliance. The position establishes agency standards, evaluates program effectiveness, advises agency leadership regarding significant risks, and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, Texas A&M University System, and TEEX requirements.  This position reports to the Assistant Agency Director of Administrative TEEX Services. 

Qualifications of the Role

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Environmental Health and Safety field from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Sixteen years of related Environmental Health and Safety experience to include two years of supervisory experience.

  • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.

  • Must have a valid certification in a safety or environmental field, such as Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, or Certified Safety and Health Official.

Equivalency: Will consider eighteen years of related experience (Listed Above) with an Associate's Degree in applicable field (Listed Above) from an accredited college or university OR twenty years of related experience (Listed Above) with a High School Diploma/GED. All experience must include two years of supervisory experience.
