Job Description

A Glimpse of the Job

The FBS Director (not ORP-eligible), under general direction, maintains responsibility for the management and direction of Texas A&M Centralized Finance and Business Services for the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH). This position manages daily financial activities, ensures compliance with institutional and hospital policies, supports budgeting and reporting, and provides leadership to finance staff within the hospital while ensuring accurate and timely financial transactions for the VMTH.

Essential Duties

Leadership

  • Develops strategic plan for unit

  • Serves on departmental leadership team

  • Directs unit staff, setting performance standards and accountabilities

  • Ensures that programs, activities, and services comply with University, State, and Federal regulations

  • Provides input and guidance into the budget and fiscal operations of the unit

  • Develops and seeks funding for programs to promote unit mission

  • Oversees communications, promotions, and public relations for unit

  • Develops and implements unit programs

  • Serves on various University, division, and departmental committees and represents the department at various State and National associations

  • Implements process improvements

  • Promotes a collaborative team environment

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Oversees daily financial and business operations of VMTH

  • Supports 24/7 hospital operations

  • Maintains financial reserves for continuity

  • Oversees Electronic Medical Records System (EMR) financial reconciliation with FAMIS

  • Serves as liaison for Foundation funds

  • Provides financial insights to leadership

  • Responds to financial inquiries and collaborates across units

  • Participates in committees and initiatives

  • Develops financial reports, analyses, and surveys

  • Prepares projections and insights for decision-making

  • Directs the annual operating budget preparation

  • Handles special projects as directed

  • Provides guidance on financial procedures and transactions

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination or education and experience
