ABOUT THE JOB
The Benefits Manager is responsible for designing, administering, and continuously improving employee benefits programs that support employee well-being, align with organizational goals, and comply with applicable laws and regulations. This role manages health and welfare plans, retirement programs, leave-related benefits, wellness offerings, vendor relationships, employee communications, and annual enrollment activities. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical skills, regulatory knowledge, and employee-centered communication to deliver competitive, cost-effective benefits programs.
WHAT YOU DAY WILL LOOK LIKE
- Design, implement, and administer employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, wellness, and voluntary plans.
- Evaluate current benefits offerings and recommend enhancements based on employee needs, market trends, utilization data, and cost analysis.
- Manage vendor and broker relationships, including contract review, service performance monitoring, issue resolution, and renewal support.
- Lead open enrollment planning and execution, including timelines, system coordination, employee education, and communication materials.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to employee benefits and leave programs.
- Partner with payroll, finance, legal, and HR teams to ensure accurate deductions, reporting, reconciliations, and policy alignment.
- Respond to employee and manager questions regarding eligibility, enrollment, claims, life events, and plan changes.
- Maintain benefits records, documentation, and audit readiness, and prepare reports, metrics, and recommendations for leadership.
- Support leave and accommodation processes in coordination with internal stakeholders and third-party administrators, as applicable.
- Develop and deliver clear benefits communication, education, and training materials to improve employee understanding and engagement.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Five or more years of progressive experience in benefits administration, benefits strategy, or total rewards.
- Strong knowledge of employee benefits laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Experience managing benefit vendors, enrollments, audits, and employee communications.
- Proficiency with HRIS, benefits administration systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex information clearly.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Â
- Professional certification such as CEBS, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP.
- Experience supporting multi-state benefits programs and leave administration.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws (ACA, social security administration, Medicare, 401k) is required.
- Experience with pension plans, 5500s, 8955-5SSa's and retiree medical plans is highly preferred.
- Computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office are required.
- Experience with ADP or similar HRIS system is required.
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables and V look-ups, is required.
- Background in benefits benchmarking, cost modeling, and program design.
- Experience leading or supporting wellness initiatives and employee engagement efforts.

The work environment for this position is that of a typical office environment where the noise level is mostly quiet. This position requires you to use your hands for many different tasks and to talk, hear, walk, stand and sit. You may be occasionally required to lift or move up to 10 pounds.
