DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities, markets, and service offerings.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, contractors, engineers, inspectors, owners, and agencies.
- Attend industry events to stay current on market conditions and competition.
- Track state infrastructure initiatives and report potential impacts to leadership.
- Provide monthly updates to leadership on business development activities and pipeline.
- Communicate with customers regarding outstanding receivables over 90 days to improve collections.
- Review project/letting drawings and specifications to perform accurate material take-offs and labor assessments.
- Import lettings into Viewpoint (VP) and create new job quotes.
- Develop and maintain competitive bid pricing (internal and subcontractor).
- Evaluate project risks including scheduling conflicts, material availability, and logistics.
- Coordinate and manage the full estimating process, including bid preparation and submission.
- Maintain a repository of plans and specifications for all quoted projects.
- Identify opportunities for new products, materials, or services aligned with company capabilities.
- Prepare detailed handoff packages for awarded projects to Project Management.
- Create project timelines and material quantity lists for awarded work.
- Coordinate with Operations for scheduling and procurement.
- Review contracts to ensure alignment with bid scope and pricing.
- Assemble material RFI packages including updated product data sheets from vendors.
- Assist with ordering specialized materials (pre-formed, colored materials, MMA, tape, etc.) in coordination with Project Management.
- Run cost reports and track estimated versus actual project performance.
- Maintain detailed records of project estimates and outcomes for continuous improvement.
- Assist accounting with collections over 60 days based on reporting data.
- Maintain a list of past-due contractors for leadership when determining RFQ distribution.
- Identify potential acquisitions, expansions, or new service/product lines.
- Develop proformas and implementation plans including staffing, equipment, and capital requirements.
- Support execution strategies for growth initiatives.
- Any other duties assigned as needed.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and contracts
- Strong math and analytical skills, including cost analysis
- Knowledge of construction estimating and project workflows
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
- Experience with Viewpoint (VP) software a plus
- CAD experience preferred
- Experience working with DOTD, TDOT, ARDOT, or similar agencies preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree required
- 5–15 years of experience in construction estimating, project management, or business development
- Proven track record of developing profitable client relationships
- Experience preparing bids, take-offs, and managing project data
- Ability to travel as needed
