This role ensures the reliable, efficient, and compliant movement of freight across rail, drayage, and ocean channels, from initial booking through final delivery.

Serving as the logistical backbone of the commercial organization, the Director of Logistics works in close partnership with the Vice President of Commercial Strategy to ensure customer commitments are executed with consistency, speed, and quality. This role translates commercial demand into actionable logistics and export plans while coordinating closely with the Vice President of Operations to ensure alignment between logistics execution and on-the-ground terminal operational performance.

Reporting to the COO, this position is focused on operational excellence, network coordination, and continuous improvement, ensuring that logistics and NVOCC execution support customer success, terminal performance, and scalable growth across the network.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Lead the end-to-end execution of all logistics and NVOCC operations, ensuring accurate booking, documentation, coordination, and movement of freight across the network.
  2. Embody and champion company values: Safety, Efficiency, Adaptability, Reliability, and Service.
  3. Translate commercial demand into executable logistics and export plans, aligning capacity, equipment availability, and service levels with customer commitments.
  4. Partner closely with the President and Vice President of Commercial Strategy to ensure seamless alignment between customer expectations and operational delivery.
  5. Work in close alignment with the Vice President of Operations to ensure logistics plans are executable at the terminal level, supporting throughput, labor planning, and service consistency.
  6. Manage relationships with railroads, ocean carriers, and drayage providers to ensure service reliability, equipment availability, and network alignment.
  7. Oversee day-to-day shipment execution, including scheduling, routing, equipment allocation, and issue resolution across all modes.
  8. Own the NVOCC function, ensuring accurate and timely booking, documentation, vessel coordination, and compliance with all export requirements.
  9. Monitor logistics and NVOCC performance metrics (on-time performance, dwell time, demurrage, detention, cost per move, documentation accuracy) and drive corrective actions to improve outcomes.
  10. Identify and resolve operational bottlenecks impacting throughput, service consistency, and customer experience across logistics, NVOCC, and terminal interfaces.
  11. Ensure seamless coordination across booking, documentation, and physical movement of freight, eliminating gaps between commercial commitments, logistics planning, and terminal execution.
  12. Lead and develop the Logistics and NVOCC teams, establishing clear roles, accountability, and performance expectations.
  13. Ability to periodically travel to company sites and industry related conferences
  14. Drive continuous improvement, cost control, and risk management initiatives across logistics and export operations, including compliance with all applicable transportation and trade requirements.
