The High-Power Electromagnetics Division (HPEM) team is at the forefront of radiated and conducted energy delivery systems from prime power to applications. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to grow, lead, and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-term programs and new programs supporting the DoD, DoE, and their contractors. The HPEM Division is looking for an exceptionally talented, motivated, and creative Lab Technician to support rapid Manufacturing activities out of our facility in Colorado Springs, CO.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Read prototype level assembly drawings and assemble the product with minimal assistance
  • Apply necessary mechanical techniques for assembly of products
  • Attention to assembly drawing details regarding thread locking and torque values
  • Assembly of electronics and wire harnesses from prototype level documentation
  • Soldering of wire harnesses and PCBs
  • Test parts and assemblies using measuring devices and diagnostic tools
  • Prepare, conduct, and document tests as required by engineering staff
  • Interact with Engineering team to report issues or improvements to the process
  • Manage inventory, receiving and cleaning parts (approximately 10% of the time)
  • Perform miscellaneous build room duties and projects assigned by supervisor


Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • 2 – 4 years of experience assembling electronic devices and wire harnesses
  • 2 – 4 years of experience testing electronics using oscilloscopes, multimeters, etc. 
  • Ability to interpret engineering schematics and drawings
  • Strong verbal and communication skills working in a team environment
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality
  • Must be detailed oriented 
  • Skilled at utilizing common hand tools
  • Ability to organize, prioritize workload efficiently
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Costpoint software, etc.)
  • Proficient soldering skills
  • Ability to travel for field tests up to three weeks at a time
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Willing to perform repetitive tasks while sitting or standing for extended periods of time
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain DoD TS security clearance
  • May require moderate physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 30 pounds
  • Working environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated; moderate physical hazards may exist


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience assembling electronic devices and wire harnesses
  • 5+ years of experience testing electronics using oscilloscopes, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, etc.
  • 1 – 2 years of machine shop experience operating band saws, drill presses, etc.
  • 1 – 2 years of experience working in an ESD-controlled environment
  • Soldering certification
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Bills of Material (BOMs) and engineering drawings
  • Experience with parts inventory and equipment handling such as:
    • Organize and label items per our engineering drawings and standards
    • Part cleaning and kitting prior to technician assembly
    • Load and stage kitted parts with attention to detail
    • Package and ship sensitive equipment as requested

Pay Range

Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $25 to $32 (hourly USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA’s total compensation package for employees. Positions are on-site, unless indicated otherwise.
