Job DetailsJob Location: Colorado Springs, CO 80903Salary Range: $16.00 - $16.50 HourlyPool Operations Lead OVERVIEW The Pool Operations Lead supports the YMCA’s mission by providing day-to-day oversight of the aquatic facility and ensuring a safe, clean, welcoming, and well-maintained environment for members, participants, and guests. This position is responsible for pool deck operations during assigned shifts, including facility safety, member engagement, rule enforcement, water quality monitoring, cleanliness, equipment management, and emergency response. The Pool Operations Lead is expected to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and respond appropriately to operational and emergency situations. Essential Functions Provide day-to-day oversight of pool operations during assigned shifts, ensuring a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming aquatic environment. Deliver a five-star member experience by actively engaging members and guests, answering questions, addressing concerns, enforcing pool rules, and connecting individuals to YMCA programs and services. Maintain awareness of activity throughout the aquatic environment, identify potential safety concerns, enforce YMCA policies, and take appropriate action when unsafe conditions or behaviors are observed. Complete opening, closing, and routine facility inspections, including monitoring pool conditions, equipment, cleanliness, and operational readiness. Monitor water quality and chemical levels as assigned, maintain required operational logs, and follow established procedures when conditions fall outside acceptable ranges. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of pools, decks, locker rooms, equipment, furniture, and surrounding aquatic areas and promptly report maintenance or facility concerns. Set up, break down, and organize equipment and spaces for lap swimming, programs, rentals, and special events. Respond appropriately to emergencies in accordance with current certifications, YMCA emergency action plans, and established safety procedures. Maintain required certifications, participate in required trainings and drills, and comply with YMCA policies, safety procedures, abuse risk management standards, and applicable health and safety requirements. QualificationsQualifications Must be at least 18 years of age. Current nationally recognized Lifeguard Certification, such as American Red Cross, Ellis & Associates, StarGuard Elite, or equivalent. Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications. Pool operations, aquatics, recreation, or customer service experience preferred. Knowledge of basic pool operations, water quality, facility safety, and preventative maintenance preferred. Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification preferred or ability to obtain within an established timeframe. Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently, maintain situational awareness, exercise sound judgment, and respond appropriately to operational and emergency situations. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
