Position Summary
Leads small-to-medium sized mechanical engineering projects or technical work packages within cost and quality requirements as assigned and may allocate or coordinate work with the project or work package. Conducts prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and collects and analyzes data for improvements. A Typically reports to a manager. Ultra Maritime is seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer I that will have a primary focus of supporting sonobuoy production and design. This role will be responsible for ensuring product conformance to qualified designs as well as monitoring and improving product performance. The role will develop solutions and solve more complex problems to deliver mechanical engineering projects on-time, on-quality, and on-budget directly impacting project outcomes. The following responsibilities include:
Identify appropriate materials and process to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products
Create, interpret, review, and maintain engineering documentation (Prints, Specifications, etc.)
Evaluate design and manufacturing processes through analysis and test
Perform root cause and corrective action analysis on returned hardware
Support supplier quality and manufacturing with DfM and troubleshooting
Foster technical collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines and across business functions
Write reports and present technical content at peer and design reviews
Role Requirements:
Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar engineering discipline
6+ Years of relevant experience
Desired Skills:
Knowledge of various manufacturing techniques including injection molding, die casting, machining, welding, etc.
Understanding of drafting principles and standards, including GD&T
Experience with manufacturing documentation including PFMEA and Work Instructions
Strong technical writing and communication to various stakeholders; ability to write engineering reports and deliverables
Proficiency in 3D modeling software (Solidworks, Inventor, Creo, etc.)
Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance. Security clearances are granted to U.S. Citizens
Able and willing to travel for test, supplier meetings, and customer meetings (up to 10%)
