Electrical Engineer- Maintenance

Position Overview

Shaw Industries is hiring an Electrical Engineer to lead the installation, maintenance, and improvement of plant electrical distribution systems and supports capital and expense projects related to facility and equipment upgrades. The role partners with Maintenance and Operations teams to develop Preventive Maintenance (PM) tasks, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO). This position provides advanced support for electrical and automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, sensors, and VFDs. It also supports system commissioning, modifies control logic, and drives root cause analysis to improve reliability and performance across the plant. 

Essential Duties: 

  • Develop and maintain Preventive Maintenance (PM) procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) for mechanical, electrical, and utility equipment. 

  • Lead maintenance of the plant electrical distribution system, including circuit breaker testing, transformer records and testing, switchgear maintenance, infrared inspections, and ultrasonic testing. 

  • Manage and execute the plant Arc Flash program to ensure compliance with safety standards. 

  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for complex electrical and instrumentation issues, supporting technicians and operations personnel. 

  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and sensor systems. 

  • Assist in the implementation and integration of new electrical and automation technologies to improve safety, quality, and equipment reliability. 

  • Maintain accurate documentation of electrical and control systems, including updating drawings, PM records, and equipment history. 

  • Coordinate procurement and inventory management of critical electrical and automation spare parts, including vendor relations and contractor coordination for repairs and maintenance. 

  • Support capital and expense projects as assigned, including planning, specification, and commissioning of electrical and control system upgrades. 

  • Participate actively in weekly reliability and maintenance meetings, collaborating with electricians, maintenance planners, and operations. 

  • Assist in training and mentoring maintenance technicians on electrical and controls troubleshooting and safe work practices. 

  • Conduct Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) audits and ensure compliance with all safety and environmental policies. 

  • Work closely with Environmental, Health, & Safey (EH&S) teams to investigate and implement improvements in personal protective equipment (PPE) and plant safety programs. 

  • Support the plant’s Safety Management System (SMS) and promote continuous improvement initiatives in safety, quality, and productivity. 

  • Serve on cross-functional teams focused on quality, safety, and maintenance excellence. 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Maintenance or Plant Engineering leadership. 

  • Support plant DCS systems in production department to ensure process control is optimized and reliable 

  • Manage the site nuclear devices, stay up-to-date on required training and certifications, and support EH&S department with managing program as the RSO (Radiation Safety Officer)

Requirements: 

  • Four (4) year B.S. degree from a recognized university or college with 3-5 years of relevant experience

  • Preferred Electrical Engineering degree
