DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Complete inspections of all power plant mechanical equipment, determine necessary repairs, complete repairs as needed. May complete valve repair, steam/water, pipefitting, plumbing, painting, steam trap repair, instrumentation installation, and insulation work. Perform repair and installation of power plant equipment. Notify supervisor(s) of potential problems discovered during routine inspections and maintenance.

 

Safely, complete repair and maintenance of boiler equipment such as: inspecting, repairing and repacking valves, rebuilding steam traps, cleaning and inspecting boiler fireside and water sides, adjusting fans and blowers, repairing and replacing lagging and insulation, repairing water columns, replacing gaskets, checking dampers, inspecting fans, and repairing other associated components as needed.

 

Safely, use and maintain in the normal daily job function tools and equipment including various hand tools, grinders, drills, band and disk cutters, propane torch, acetylene torch, electric arc welder, electric arc plasma cutter, grit blasters, etc. Effectively uses meters and other test instruments to test and troubleshoot problems. May complete various welding methods on ferrous and non-ferrous metal components. Complete rigging and heavy lifting of various materials utilizing and operating chain/cable hoists, engine hoists, pallet jacks, forklifts, and small portable cranes.

 

Coordinate with power plant supervision and engineering on projects and maintenance; prepare material lists, review inventory needs, review schematics, construction drawings, and equipment manuals, and assist in maintaining power plant maintenance records.

 

Safely, start-up boilers and bring to operating pressure.

 

Safely coordinate work with power plant operations to maintain reliability of plant equipment by following all plant safety practices. Normal work will be in areas of limited access, chillers, piping, pumps, heights, extreme heat, humidity, and noise.

 

 

Ability to use computer for digital record keeping in CMMS.

 

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

 

Skilled in the methods and practices of power plant and industrial maintenance and mechanical repair.

 

Skilled in the use of industrial hand and power tools, oxy-acetylene torch, and lifting equipment, such as chain hoists, forklifts, and small cranes.

 

Electric arc welding skills.

Four (4) years of general mechanical experience of in a heavy industrial environment. Personal driver's license; Missouri license within thirty (30) days of Missouri residency. Stationary Engineer license by any jurisdiction, or passing results on the Missouri Stationary Engineer exam by the International Code Council (ICC) or equivalent local exam within one (1) year as a condition of continued employment in this job classification.
