Purpose:
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the team in areas of quality, safety, lab operations, and costs associated with the day-to-day activities of the laboratory in the milk plant. Â
Essential Responsibilities:
- All plant personnel have the responsibility to monitor and report any deviations from our Food Safety and Food Quality (HACCP & SQF) programs to your immediate supervisor/manager.
- Ability to coach and lead work teams to achieve performance, quality, cost, and service goals.
- Perform administrative duties related to supervising the Quality teams in the primary and receiving laboratories, including scheduling, staffing, time approvals, etc.
- Cultivate a positive and innovative work environment.
- SQF support – Responsible for development, training, implementation, and compliance to the standard of the Safe Quality Food (SQF) standard, specific to laboratory and recordkeeping.
- Oversee and coordinate daily in-process and finished product quality microbiological and chemical testing. Â Ensure data accuracy for reporting purposes.
- Responsible for maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of laboratory instruments.
- Provide lab technician training and oversight for daily lab practices and procedures.
- Provide supervisory coverage for the Quality lab team.
- Perform weekly lab supply inventories and order supplies, as needed and within the boundaries of annual budget.
- Provide leadership in maintaining Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices and Safety Procedures throughout the plant.
- Provides support during all regulatory / 3rd party audits with regard to lab documents and recordkeeping.
- Weekend and nights will be required with some flexibility in schedule to accommodate the needs of the department and business which may include off-hour coverage in-person, phone, or email.
Other Required Responsibiities:
- Represent the Quality department on multi-department collaboration projects, as needs determine.
- Member of HACCP Team.
- Other quality department responsibilities as deemed necessary.
- Maintain proficiency in lab and reporting methods and innovations.
- Provides back-up coverage in the absence of the Quality Manager.
Knowledge & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Dairy Manufacturing, Food Science, Microbiology, or related field required or 3 -5 years of relevant dairy or food manufacturing experience.
- Experience in dairy and/or food laboratory testing procedures preferred. Previous Lead or Supervisory experience a plus.
- Proficient in computer spreadsheet and word-processing programs (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and able to interpret and manipulate information generated.
- Knowledge of dairy and/or food laboratory testing methods.
- Detail oriented and team member with a strong, honest work ethic and an ability to handle multiple tasks daily.
- Ability to effectively interact with and provide instruction to QA laboratory and plant employees.
- Ability to write procedures and perform sound document management practices.
- Self-motivated and a self-starter.
