DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION

 

Actively identify and participate in training, education, development activities, and/or supervise speech therapy students or speech fellows to improve their own knowledge and performance including acquiring the CEUs needed to maintain state licensure in the State of Missouri.

 

Administer treatment that requires the advanced skills of a licensed clinician to address speech, language, and swallowing impairments.

 

Determine the need for referral to medical specialists. Complete documentation according to MU Health Care and department guidelines and policies.

 

Evaluate speech, language, and swallowing functions by administering appropriate diagnostic tests.

 

Interpret findings to medical professionals, patients, and appropriate patient caregivers.

 

Maintain standards in accordance with the code of ethics of the ASHA and the State of Missouri Practice Act to maintain eligibility for licensure.

 

May complete unit/department specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Speech Language Pathologist (SLP or SLP-P) licensure by the Missouri Commission for Speech-Language Pathologists.  Certificate of Clinical Competency (CCC) certification from American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). SLP program graduates must obtain CCC within 2 years of employment as a condition of continued employment.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met with or without reasonable accommodation. The performance of these physical demands is an essential function of the job. This position is very active and may require ambulating, remaining in a stationary position and positioning self to reach and/or move objects above the shoulders and below the knees. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 lbs. and occasionally move objects up to 25 lbs. This role may also routinely comes into contact with patients who may have contagious illnesses. This position is in a health care facility open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Rotating shifts as well as holiday and work during inclement weather will be required.
