The Home Health Student Nurse Internship is a summer opportunity designed to provide nursing students with hands-on experience in a community-based home care setting. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to gain direct clinical experience in the home environment by assisting with essential patient care tasks such as measuring vital signs, performing physical assessments, supporting wound management, and providing Foley catheter care —all under the guidance of experienced registered nurses. This internship aims to enhance clinical assessment skills, foster compassionate communication, and offer exposure to the continuum of care outside traditional hospital settings.

Responsibilities:Ā 

  • Assist Registered Nurses in providing direct patient care in home settingsĀ 

  • Conduct patient assessments and document findings accuratelyĀ 

  • Participate in care planning and implementation under RN supervisionĀ 

  • Practice effective, empathetic communication with patients and familiesĀ 

  • Adhere to all clinical protocols, safety guidelines, and regulatory requirementsĀ 

  • Maintain patient confidentiality and professional conduct at all timesĀ 

  • Engage in educational activities and team meetingsĀ within the branch and the Chief Nursing OfficeĀ

Required Qualifications:Ā 

  • EnrolledĀ in an accreditedĀ Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN),Ā Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), orĀ Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)Ā program, withĀ expected graduation date between December 2026 and Summer 2027Ā 

  • Must be available to work full-time,Ā 40Ā hoursĀ per week, Monday – Friday forĀ 8Ā weeksĀ fromĀ JuneĀ 1 – JulyĀ 24.Ā 

  • Must have a validĀ driver’sĀ licenseĀ forĀ the duration of the internship toĀ travel toĀ the branch and/orĀ patient homes. Students will ride with their preceptors for most home visits.Ā Ā 

  • Completion of at least one clinical rotation in an acute care setting and/orĀ previousĀ experience in home health, hospice, or community-based careĀ 

  • Must haveĀ Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart AssociationĀ that must be activeĀ for the duration of internshipĀ 

  • Must not require sponsorship to work in the United States now or in the futureĀ

Preferred Qualifications:Ā 

  • Have a strong academic history, with a minimum nursing GPA of 2.5 or higherĀ 

  • HaveĀ demonstratedĀ commitment to patient-centered careĀ and strong interest in home health careĀ 

  • Have strong organizational, prioritization, and critical thinking skillsĀ 

  • Possess strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skillsĀ

  • Onboarding andĀ orientationĀ completed in week oneĀ 

  • Work closelyĀ in the homeĀ withĀ seasonedĀ home healthĀ nursesĀ toĀ provide hands on, supervised care to home bound patientsĀ 

  • Interdisciplinary care team shadowingĀ experiencesĀ 

  • Facilitated, virtualĀ groupĀ meetupsĀ with other home health nursing interns across theĀ USĀ Ā 

  • Opportunities to connect andĀ interactĀ with home health andĀ organization leadersĀ

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.
