Description

Summary: 

The Controller is responsible for overseeing the organization’s accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. This position provides critical financial expertise and leadership to support the strategic objectives of the National Registry.


Purpose: 

The Controller supports and impacts the National Registry by providing transparent, accurate, and timely financial information, reinforcing fiscal discipline, and ensuring the integrity of all financial processes. This role enables informed decision-making and effective resource management across the organization.


Essential Functions:

  • Accounting/Financial Reporting: Oversee all accounting activities, manage the month-end and year-end close processes, and ensure the timely preparation of accurate financial statements in accordance with GAAP and organizational policies. Supervise the maintenance of ledgers, reconciliation of accounts, and the implementation of internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial data.
  • Financial Oversight and Analysis: Provide comprehensive oversight of financial operations, including cash flow management, investments, and reserves. Analyze financial results, trends, and variances to deliver actionable insights to leadership and support the development of strategic plans. Monitor financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Payroll Oversight and Analysis: Oversee payroll processing to ensure accuracy, compliance with federal and state regulations, and timely payments. Review and analyze payroll data for trends, discrepancies, and cost management.
  • Budget Management: Coordinate the annual budgeting process, working with department heads to develop, review, and consolidate departmental budgets. Monitor actual performance against budget, prepare variance reports, and provide recommendations for corrective actions as needed.
  • Policy and Procedure Management: Develop, implement, and maintain financial policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure compliance and operational efficiency. Periodically review and update documentation to reflect changes in laws, regulations, or organizational structure.
  • Technical Financial Expertise: Serve as the organization’s subject matter expert on complex accounting issues, regulatory requirements, and financial systems. Provide guidance and training to staff, and lead initiatives to enhance financial processes through technology and best practices.
  • Coordinate and support the annual audit process, serving as the primary contact for external auditors and ensuring timely completion of audit deliverables.
  • Oversee the preparation and filing of all required tax documents and regulatory reports.
  • Manage relationships with banks and other financial institutions to optimize organizational resources.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Active Certified Public Accountant license. 
  • Progressive accounting/finance experience, including auditing, cost accounting, and budgeting. 

Competencies:

  • Deep understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls. 
  • Proficiency with ERP systems. 
  • Analytical thinking, problem solving, and attention to detail. 

Physical Requirements:

  • Capable of working in an office environment. 

Other:

  • Ability to travel approximately 5 nights a year.
