Sr Design Engineer

Provide Engineering support to Consumer Product Innovation/New Product Development (NPD) efforts.  Conceives, ideates and visualizes/prototypes new product ideas considering all aspects of consumer experience and brand strategy. Leads front-end technical/engineering aspects of NPD projects. Ability to drive complex projects forward. Defines performance criteria for success in early phases. Liaison between NPD and other internal and external technical partners. 

Key Position Results: 

• Technical solutions to Consumer Driven issues within strategic areas of scope
• Design and build prototypes to support Consumer Validation efforts
• CAD and BOM for NPD projects for initial quoting and manufacture feasibility
• Research and generate new product ideas for BU Leadership evaluation

Key Duties & Responsibilities: 

• Technical solutions for NPD projects
• Collaborating with internal and technical partners for NPD solutions
• Lead cross functional team in development of consumer products
• Manage small team of engineers through technical aspects of product development
• Research and Idea generation for consumer and commercial products
• Support Consumer Insights needs with prototypes
• Validation of NPD technical solutions
• Participation in Commercial Project Management process
• Performance targets and testing methodology

Critical Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: 

• Product Engineering (Mechanical, Pressurized Vessels, Valve Design)
• Knowledge of NPD/Stage Gate process
• Lead collaborative cross functional team through product development process and Stage Gate
• Highly motivated to understand consumer needs and usage experience
• Continuous learner & ideator. Learns by research and hands-on building. Strong collaborator.
• Ability to use cad software, Solidworks, Autocad
• Good general knowledge of manufacturing processes
• Ability to use rapid prototype equipment 
• FEA and CFD software experience

Education/Training Required:

• 4 year Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent experience
• 10+ years related experience
• 5+ years CPG/NPD experience
• A+ Certification
• Knowledge of materials and consumer insights
• General knowledge of machine capabilities
• General knowledge of patent laws
