Job Summary:

This entry level/early career professional, applied technology position creates and integrates electrical and electronic hardware that is essential to Cummins products. People in these positions will typically develop and validate electronic sensors, actuators, control units, harnesses, wiring practices, or control systems and associated analog and digital signals to ensure the consistent operation of Cummins' products in a variety of customer applications.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Investigates electronic hardware problems, understands causal mechanisms, recommends appropriate action, owns problem resolution and documents results with guidance from more experienced team members. Applies and supports the improvement of electronic hardware development processes and tools. Processes include, basic problem solving techniques, familiarity with hardware development process, and requirements analysis. Applies knowledge of design methods such as worst case analysis, circuit simulation, DFMEA/PFMEA, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), schematic capture, Specification Compliance Matrix (or equivalent). Obtains input and collaborates with electronic suppliers and delivers prototype hardware to application engineering teams. Makes decisions in the areas of hardware requirements, validation test that impact unit cost, functionality, and prototype delivery. Owns problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, systems, subsystems or services with technical complexity and ambiguity increasing as experience is gained in the role. Provides independent execution of established work processes and systems, while still developing technology or product knowledge; engages with the improvement of systems and processes. Involves no direct management of people, but could involve the coordination and direction of work amongst technicians and/or temporary student employees. Contributes effectively toward team goals, exhibits influence within a work group and continues to develop proficiency in the competency areas critical to success in the role
