About the Role:
As an Estimator in the construction industry, you will play a critical role in the successful planning and execution of construction projects by accurately forecasting the costs involved. Your primary objective will be to analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to prepare detailed and competitive cost estimates that align with client budgets and company goals. You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to gather necessary information and ensure all aspects of the project are considered in your estimates. Your work will directly impact project bidding, resource allocation, and financial planning, contributing to the overall profitability and efficiency of construction projects. Additionally, you will continuously update and refine estimating processes to improve accuracy and adapt to changing market conditions and material costs.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Proven experience as a construction estimator or in a similar role within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and legal regulations.
- Proficiency in construction estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) from the American Society of Professional Estimators.
- Experience with project management software and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools.
- Familiarity with local and federal construction codes and safety regulations.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience working with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
- Review and analyze blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
- Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
- Develop and maintain relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and ensure accurate cost data.
- Monitor project progress and costs to compare actual costs to estimates and provide feedback for future projects.
- Assist in the preparation of bid proposals and ensure compliance with all regulatory and company standards.
- Maintain detailed records of estimates, bids, and project costs for reporting and auditing purposes.

The required skills enable the estimator to accurately interpret construction documents and apply technical knowledge to develop precise cost estimates, which are essential for competitive bidding and project planning. Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office facilitates efficient data analysis, report generation, and communication with stakeholders.
