Job DetailsJob Location: Columbus, IN 47201Position Type: Full TimeJob Shift: AnyJob Category: FacilitiesPosition Title: Maintenance Assistant Supervisor’s Title: Facilities Manager               FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Full Time   Job Classification & Pay Range: Facilities & Maintenance, minimum starting rate of $15 per hour, additional depending on experience.                                                                                                                                                                                               Purpose This staff member does maintenance, landscape and janitorial work to improve and preserve the appearance and condition of library property, making our facilities welcoming and safe places to be.   Essential Functions and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.   Follows regular schedule of maintenance and cleaning of interior and exterior of the building Vacuums and shampoos carpeted areas; mops tiled floors Washes windows and glass door panels Cleans restrooms and all painted wall surfaces Keeps exterior walks and courtyards free of litter, leaves, branches, snow, ice, and weeds.    Empties wastebaskets and disposes of discarded materials Keeps in good order and repairs all maintenance and janitorial equipment and supplies Performs routine maintenance, repair, assembly and disassembly on library equipment and furnishings Recommends janitorial supplies for purchase and maintains supply inventory. Prepares meeting rooms for use by groups and organizations Replaces burned out light bulbs in all areas of the building Restocks supplies in various areas of the building. Collects items from outdoor book drops and transports them inside the building Assists with receiving deliveries and takes outgoing mail to the Post Office. Assists security personnel with maintaining building security Delivers books and other materials to Hope Branch Library Assists with Hope Branch maintenance as needed Performs vehicle maintenance, cleaning, fueling and scheduling Hauls trash, landscape debris or other materials to landfill and/or recycling centers Operate a variety of tools and equipment Other duties as assigned   Education and/or Experience To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience:   High school diploma or equivalent required Previous janitorial or maintenance experience in work similar to library duties preferred Valid Drivers License.   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  Customer Service: Treats both internal customers (coworkers) and external customers (library patrons and visitors) with professionalism, courtesy, and helpfulness Management: No personnel management involved, although must be able to manage projects and workload within necessary time constraints Teamwork: Possesses the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library staff members, and cooperate in accomplishing common goals Communications and Media: Able to follow written and verbal instructions, and communicate well in-person, on the phone, and via email and text messaging Adaptability: Must be able to adapt to changes in routine and to handle the unexpected gracefully Image: Projects a professional image that reflects well on the Library; has integrity and exercises good judgement Technical: Must have basic technological literacy, such as how to use email, text-messaging, and multi-line telephones Physical Demands The employee frequently is required to: Stand and walk for long periods of time Bend, squat, and kneel Stretch and reach with arms and hands Push and pull various equipment Lift a variety of equipment and items, weighing up to 50 pounds Use hands and fingers to operate equipment and perform maintenance tasks Be outdoors in a wide variety of weather conditions Drive library vehicles Communicate verbally with others Qualifications
