Job Description Summary:


 

Evaluates licensing opportunities, negotiates contracts, and manages relationships with external partners to develop technology commercialization at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.


 

Job Description:


 

Essential Functions:

  • Identifies, solicits, and manages novel technologies for potential licensing opportunities, ensuring compliance with licensing regulations and intellectual property protection.
  • Collaborates to draft and negotiate licensing and optioning agreements, translating complex scientific language into clear and understandable terms appropriate for business negotiation.
  • Builds and maintains a network of local, regional, national and international business partners.
  • Prepares technical summaries, conference presentations, and reports on novel technologies and licensing activities.
  • Establishes and maintains policies and procedures for evaluating and marketing technology. Develops and implements annual and technology-specific strategies.
  • Advises and educates NCH inventors regarding the commercialization of research and technology.


Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience, required.
  • Master’s degree in science, computer science, engineering, or business, preferred.

Skills:

  • Exercises excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Through understand of copyright law and software/business method patents and understanding of Federal rights in data and software (i.e. the Bayh-Dole Act).
  • Ability to evaluate new technologies and work with faculty and staff to develop a commercialization pathway. Substantial knowledge of the application of basic and applied research to new product development, commercialization, and manufacturing; experience with software production management, marketing or sales, preferred.


Experience:

  • Two years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience, preferred.
  • Work experience in commercializing computer software and computer science related technology as it applies to health care/life science, preferred.
  • Broad technology-based experience in IT hardware and software, including experience in software product development, preferred.
  • Previous technology transfer or business development experience, preferred.
  • Experience with contracts such as material transfer, inter-institutional and non-disclosure agreements.
