The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Material Testing Technicians at all experience levels, from entry-level candidates to experienced technicians, to support our growing construction services team. This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in hands-on field work, technical skill development, and long-term career growth in construction materials testing.

 

Starting pay for entry-level candidates with no experience is $25/hour. Compensation for experienced technicians will be commensurate with certifications and experience.

 

What You’ll Do:

As a Material Testing Technician, you will perform construction materials testing in the field and laboratory to ensure materials meet applicable state, local, and project specifications. You will work closely with inspectors, project managers, and laboratory staff to support quality construction outcomes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform field testing of concrete, mortar, grout, and other cementitious materials on active construction sites.
  • Conduct compaction testing in the field, including use of Nuclear Density Gauge equipment.
  • Perform laboratory testing of soils and construction materials at our Columbus laboratory.
  • Accurately prepare daily materials testing reports that are clear, complete, and well-organized.
  • Communicate daily with the Laboratory Manager, Project Inspectors, and Project Managers regarding test results and site conditions.
  • Maintain testing equipment and follow established safety and quality procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support project and laboratory operations.

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Entry-level candidates welcome — no prior experience required; training provided.
  • One or more years of construction materials testing experience preferred for experienced-level candidates.
  • General math proficiency required to successfully complete certification exams.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (equipment provided to assist with heavier materials).
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and safety.
  • Certifications such as ODOT, NICET, Asphalt, or ACI Concrete Field Testing are preferred but not required.
    • PRIME AE will pay for all required certifications and recertifications.
