About the Role

Review medical history documentation and conduct one-time, non-treatment compensation and pension evaluations for U.S. Veterans. You will document findings electronically via a web portal to assist the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in disability award determinations. This is a non-treating, non-prescribing, in-person assessment role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review order requests, military service records, prior exams, and medical history.

  • Complete Disability Benefits Questionnaires (DBQs) and Medical Opinions (MOs) through an EMR system during exams.

  • Explain the evaluation process and confirm claimed conditions with each Veteran.

  • Administer and interpret visual field testing as required.

  • Finalize and submit completed chart documentation within 24–48 hours post-exam.

  • Active, unrestricted license as a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) or Doctor of Ophthalmology (M.D.).

  • Proficiency with EMR platforms, web portals, and standard computer applications.

  • Strong clinical communication, critical thinking, and time management skills.

  • Commitment to providing professional, compassionate service to Veterans.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior clinical practice experience.

  • Previous experience performing VA disability or Compensation & Pension (C&P) evaluations.
