Job Summary
The Principal IT Engineer in the NiSource IT department supports the design, development, and implementation of technical solutions for various products and/or platforms. The incumbent will focus on assigned technical product/platform. This role involves working on an agile product/platform team that requires hands-on technical work, problem-solving, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
Essential Functions
Technical Support: Assist in the design, development, and implementation of solutions for assigned technical product/platform. Create appropriate unit, integration, and automated acceptance tests for features based on requirements. Make appropriate design decisions based on knowledge of technology patterns and techniques based on Enterprise Architecture standards. Develop products or platforms that fulfills requirements, is readable, maintainable, testable, and performant using common development lifecycle techniques. Create highly dependable products or platforms, accounting for monitoring, logging, metrics gathering, system health, and reporting. Must be able to identify, diagnose, and solve issues in a production setting. Solution Development: Develop and implement solutions that enhance the functionality and performance of assigned products or platforms. Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including developers, analysts, and stakeholders, to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions. Code/ configuration Review and Quality Assurance: Participate in reviews and ensure that solutions meet quality standards and best practices. Troubleshooting and Support: Diagnose and resolve technical issues, providing support and maintenance for existing systems. Continuous Learning: Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies to contribute to innovation and continuous improvement in platform solutions.5 Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications For Position
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience. 10+ years of relevant IT product/platform engineering or software development experience, including but not limited to the domain technologies listed below. Business Transformation Experience: Proven experience in leading or contributing to business transformation initiatives, aligning technical solutions with strategic business goals. Team Leading: expected to support, mentor, and grow junior engineers 10+ years Customer - Salesforce Development: Basic knowledge of Service Cloud, Sales Cloud, and custom development using Apex, Lightning, and Visualforce. 10+ years ERP • SAP BASIS: Basic understanding of SAP system administration. • SAP HR: Basic knowledge of SAP Human Capital Management (HCM) modules. • SAP Security: Basic understanding of SAP security concepts. • SAP Functional: Basic familiarity with SAP MM/QM, PM modules. • SAP Financial: Basic knowledge of SAP FI/CO modules. 10+ years Integration • Working knowledge of one or more server-side programming languages (Java preferred). • Experience developing, deploying, and supporting REST services and microservices (MuleSoft preferred). • Experience using cloud services and capable of applying infrastructure as code practices (Azure and Kubernetes preferred). • Experience with DevOps practices. 10+ years Infrastructure Cloud / Data Center Domain • Design and solution the deployment of multi-cloud solutions across Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud. • Solutioning of enterprise-wide cloud governance policies to ensure scalability, compliance, and security. • Lead efforts to optimize cloud infrastructure for cost-effectiveness, performance, and resiliency. • Develop innovative cloud-native solutions, leveraging serverless architectures, containerization, and managed services. • Design and implement disaster recovery strategies and ensure their integration across hybrid and cloud environments. • Drive innovation in container orchestration strategies using Kubernetes and Docker. • Establish comprehensive observability frameworks, enabling real-time monitoring, logging, and alerting across all environments. • Mentor teams on adopting DevOps culture, tools, and practices across development and operations. • Mentoring of junior engineers promoting career growth • Oversee the architecting of storage platforms such as Pure Storage, NetApp and IBM • Oversee the architecting of virtualization / hyper converged platforms such as VMware, Nutanix, etc. • Collaborate with C-level executives to define long-term infrastructure strategies and align them with business objectives. • Lead multi-disciplinary teams on large-scale projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with organizational goals. 10+ years Network Domain • Expertise establishing standards and developing complex network designs • Expert level experience with backbone networks, head-end aggregation, internet connectivity, wireless, VPN, data center networks, cloud connectivity and network security • Perform advanced network troubleshooting and diagnostic • Strong experience building and supporting solutions across IT and OT environments • Partner with enterprise architecture and cyber security in vendor and technology selection • Extensive experience in a multi-vendor hardware environment such as Cisco, Arista, F5 • Collaborate with senior leadership to define long term strategies in alignment with business objectives 10+ years End User Domain • Develop strategic plans for end-user computing services. • Collaborate with other IT teams and stakeholders to ensure a seamless end-user experience. • Provide technical leadership and guidance on end-user computing technologies and best practices. • Lead the implementation and optimization of Microsoft collaboration tools and device management solutions. • Deep expertise in end-user computing and support, including Microsoft Surface, Lenovo, HP, and Dell devices. • Strong strategic planning and collaboration skills. • Advanced knowledge of Nexthink DEX software and its role in optimizing end-user computing environments. • Expertise in Windows OS, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Autopilot. 10+ years ServiceNow/CMDB • Deliver the CMDB practice and related processes for gathering, maintaining and disseminating asset information. • Strong knowledge of ServiceNow CMDB and related components - Discovery, Asset Management, Data Certification, Desired State, Data Manager, and CSDM. • Experience with multiple platforms – Operating Systems, Databases, Windows system administration, SAN/NAS storage, TCP/IP Networking and firewalls. • Expert knowledge of Discovery schedules, experience with scripting languages JavaScript, PowerShell, or Python. • Strong experience with reporting tools, including Performance Analytics. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Good communication and collaboration skills. Proficiency using development tools and software. Highly motivated, self-learner, and technically inquisitive. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Professional certifications in relevant IT areas. Experience in a similar industry or sector.

Salary Range*:
$133,400.00 - $200,100.00*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate’s skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
