Position Overview

1-800-Flowers.com is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Senior Director of Operations to serve as the site leader for our Obetz and Groveport facilities in Ohio. This leader will have full operational accountability for both sites, overseeing fulfillment, distribution, assembly, workforce management, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure exceptional customer experience and on-time delivery across our brands.

 

The Senior Director of Operations will drive operational excellence in a high-volume, fast-paced, seasonal environment while building a strong performance culture focused on safety, quality, service, and cost.

 

Key Responsibilities

Site Leadership & Operational Excellence

  • Serve as the senior site leader for both Obetz and Groveport facilities, with full P&L accountability for operational performance.
  • Lead all fulfillment, distribution, assembly, inventory control, and support functions to ensure on-time, accurate, and cost-effective order processing.
  • Develop and execute site-level strategies aligned with enterprise operational goals and peak-season readiness.
  • Drive operational KPIs including safety, quality, productivity, service level, throughput, and cost control.

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing operations leadership team across multiple sites.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead workforce planning efforts to effectively manage seasonal volume fluctuations.
  • Ensure strong succession planning and leadership development at all levels of the organization.

Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives using Lean principles to improve productivity, reduce waste, and enhance quality.
  • Drive process standardization and best practice sharing across both facilities.
  • Leverage operational metrics and data to improve labor efficiency, workflow balance, and order accuracy.

Safety & Compliance

  • Champion a safety-first culture, ensuring compliance with all OSHA and company safety standards.
  • Maintain high standards of quality control and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure facilities operate in accordance with company policies, food handling requirements (where applicable), and environmental standards.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Transportation, HR, Finance, Customer Service, and Brand teams to deliver seamless end-to-end operations.
  • Support enterprise initiatives related to network optimization, peak planning, and capital investments.
  • Act as the primary operations liaison for executive leadership regarding site performance and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or related field; Advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive operations leadership experience in high-volume distribution, fulfillment, manufacturing, or e-commerce environments.
  • Proven experience leading multiple sites or large, complex facilities.
  • Demonstrated success managing assembly and fulfillment operations in a fast-paced, seasonal environment.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing operational budgets and driving cost efficiencies.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certification preferred.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and change management skills.
