The Unit Secretary performs clerical duties, requisitions, transcribes orders, makes charts, etc. in the nursing unit, assumes Receptionist responsibilities, as well as assist Nursing Staff and Physicians with special responsibilities. The Unit Secretary is also responsible for Public Relations. A cheerful and positive attitude toward patients, visitors and co-workers is essential. The Unit Secretary must be courteous and understanding and work closely with other members of Nursing Service and on-call departments. He/She accumulates data for acuity, census, admission, discharge, and reports to the DON. Assumes Business Office functions when BO is closed. Monitors telemetry and notifies Charge Nurse of alarms. Requires communication skills. The Unit Secretary will assist with nursing duties in age specific manner as needed.
