Summary – basic function of the role

Maintain all machinery, test fixtures and manufacturing processes running by preventing downtime.  Ensure all equipment is in good repair through a preventative maintenance program and providing quick response to equipment breakdowns to minimize production downtime.

Shift: Monday – Friday; 7:00am – 3:30 pm, Saturdays when production needs exist.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Perform prototype, short run machining, finishing, and deburring of complicated hydraulic components requiring a high level of skill and diversity plus maintaining close tolerances (plus or minus .0003 inches) in a R & D environment.
  • Provide support machining for fixtures, test stands, etc., when needed.
  • Emphasis on the efficient and accurate set up and operation of machines and machine tools.
  • Have a working knowledge of a variety of materials plus their machinability.
  • May inspect production of other personnel and/or other vendor parts.
  • Obtain from stock and prepare material for machining.
  • Set up and operate C. N. C. and conventional machines to produce close tolerance components in compliance with parameters set by the assigned engineer.
  • All other duties assigned by management.

 

Skills and Competencies

  • Must have complete knowledge in set up and operation of lathes, mills, grinders, welders and other equipment is required.
  • Be familiar with the set up and operation of the C. N. C. equipment is required.
  • Possess proficiency in the use of precision measuring equipment, i.e., micrometers, profilometers, roundness, hardness and gauges are required.
  • Must be able to interpret drawings and specifications and have a working knowledge of shop math including geometry plus elements of trigonometry is required.
  • Must have complete knowledge and usage of AC / DC hand power tools.
  • Four to six years’ experience in formal fabrication skills.
  • Must be self -motivated plus have good organizational skills.
  • Programming of C. N. C. equipment is required.

Education and Experience

Education Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent. 

Experience Requirements:

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. 
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to be exposed to loud noises
  • Must be able to communicate telephonically and electronically with team members and leaders of supported organizations.
  • Must be able to hear/understand/speak with team members at all levels within a diverse workforce.
  • Must be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations. Four to six- years’ experience in tool room and prototype machining is required.

Certification Requirements: Licenses and certificates in skilled trades are beneficial.

Physical Demands

 

Employee may have to lift work materials up to 30-50 pounds floor-to-table and 50-100 pounds across table. Employee will have to be able to walk/climb to a variety of primary work locations.  Ability to climb ladders and operation lifts.  Employee will need to listen, understand, and speak with team members at all levels within a diverse workforce.

Work Environment

 

Employee will be in a manufacturing environment. Employee may work near moving mechanical parts. Employee may be exposed to high platforms or other areas that are high above ground and in limited access areas. Employee will be exposed to various levels of noise based on the location in the building.
