Job Summary:Ā The Community Advocate’s aim is to collect community views, understand community needs, andĀ identifyĀ possible challengesĀ and community-based solutions. This will be achieved byĀ neighborhoodĀ canvassing, phone calls, attending meetings, and other relevant means of communication. TheĀ end goalĀ of the Community AdvocateĀ isĀ to inform theĀ public, specifically BIPOCĀ residents,Ā aboutĀ environmentalĀ equityĀ issues, especialĀ solar energy, weatherization, and electrification.Ā 


Job Responsibilities:Ā 

  • Builds strong relationships with members of and leaders in the communityĀ 
  • Be the main point and have direct contact with the communityĀ 
  • Attends various meetings like community meetings, governmental meetings, school board meetings, neighborhood meetings, environmental causes meetings, etc.Ā 
  • Assists with recruitment for IMPACT programs with a focus on recruitment for the Empowered! ProgramĀ 
  • Collects community feedback and relays to appropriate IMPACT managers and directorsĀ 
  • Understanding of environmental issues; distributesĀ accurateĀ information to the communityĀ 
  • Informs and educates community about opportunities and programs available through IMPACT and other community organizationsĀ 
  • Completes and submits all required reporting forms, including hours worked, in a timely mannerĀ 
  • Represents Agency in a courteous and professional manner at all timesĀ 
  • Other duties as assignedĀ

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:Ā 

Requires ability to operate telephone and personal computer forĀ extended periods of time. Walking/canvassing is required. Local travel required.Ā Ā

  • High School diploma or G.E.D.Ā 
  • Valid Ohio Driver License and ability to meet agency insurability requirementsĀ 
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferredĀ 
  • Experience in social work, human services, non-profit, or community engagement preferredĀ 
  • Resident of one of Columbus’ Opportunity Neighborhoods preferredĀ
