Work Schedule: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Job Purpose
The Forklift Operator operates industrial forklifts and in-loaders to safely move materials throughout the work area. This position also assists with packaging and handling finished products while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate forklifts, hoists, elevating platforms, and other material-handling equipment to load, unload, transport, and stack materials.
- Inspect product loads for accuracy and safely transport materials throughout the warehouse, production area, or facility to ensure timely and complete delivery.
- Manually load and unload materials from pallets, skids, platforms, lifting devices, and transportation vehicles.
- Position lifting equipment under, over, or around loaded pallets, skids, boxes, and other materials and properly secure products for transportation to designated areas.
- Perform daily inspections of forklift equipment and report any safety concerns, damage, or maintenance issues to the appropriate supervisor.
- Mechanically load and unload materials using forklifts and other material-handling equipment.
- Operate scanner devices to accurately track, receive, move, and ship products.
- Assist with packaging and handling of finished products as needed.
- Maintain clean and orderly equipment and work areas.
- Perform general yard and housekeeping duties as assigned.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and operating standards.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
Education, Knowledge, and Skills
- High School Diploma or GED preferred but not required.
- Basic ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English.
- Previous forklift experience is preferred but not required. All employees will receive appropriate training.
- Ability to follow safety procedures, work instructions, and company policies.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
None.
Work Environment
The employee works primarily in a manufacturing and warehouse environment and may be exposed to:
- Noise
- Dust
- Fumes
- Moving equipment and machinery
- Varying temperatures and outdoor conditions, depending on work assignment
Employees are expected to follow all applicable safety rules and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
Physical Demands
This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying. The employee may frequently lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally handle materials weighing up to 100 pounds with appropriate assistance or equipment.
The position requires the ability to:
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Perform strenuous physical labor.
- Lift, push, pull, and carry materials.
- Use abdominal and lower-back muscles to provide support during physical activities.
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely.
- Demonstrate good manual dexterity and hand, arm, and multi-limb coordination.
- Quickly and safely move arms and legs when operating equipment or handling materials.
- Maintain sufficient physical stamina throughout the workday.
- Read and understand reports, labels, data, instructions, and information displayed on computer or scanner screens.
- Maintain adequate visual ability to safely operate equipment and perform job duties.
