Lead – Maintenance – Swing Shift
Vaagen Bros. Lumber Inc. is a family-owned wood products manufacturer that has operated in northeastern Washington for over 70 years. The primary role of the Maintenance Lead position on swing shift is to lead and supervise a team, including but not limited to maintenance flow and scheduling, creating a culture of teamwork and cooperation between major processing segments and integration of operating personnel and maintenance staff.Â
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Manage the maintenance team on swing shift including but not limited to, time clock management, performance reviews, disciplinary action, and training
- Perform various tasks assigned by the Maintenance SupervisorÂ
- Coaching and mentoring team members
- Maintain mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, air & conveying systemsÂ
- Perform all preventative maintenance, breakdown maintenance, and welding repair tasksÂ
- Stick welding, electrical, and hydraulic repairÂ
- Heavy equipment and machinery repairÂ
- Performs mandatory visual inspection of the equipment and facilities before use
- Promote Safety to the team members and be an example of taking the lead in putting safety 1st.Â
- Build sustainable communication bridges between departments for quality, production changes, and inventory plans.
- Assist in training and mentoring of new employees
- Performs mandatory visual inspection of the equipment and facilities before use
- Know, Understand, and Apply the Lock-out Tag-out proceduresÂ
- Entry level laborer duties, including but not limited to, stacking boards, general cleanup, removal of wood waste and debris, and tending machinesÂ
- Maintain lines of communication with other team members
- Ensure tools, supplies, and equipment are in their “home locations” at all times
- Maintain a clean and safe work area
- Learning and applying lean business practices
- Fill out a maintenance request and Idea Cards when needed
- Other duties as assigned
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrate problem solving and technical troubleshooting skillsÂ
- Problem solving, technical troubleshooting, communication, planning, and organization skills
- Strong computer skills, including knowledge in Microsoft products
- Self-directed leader, safe leadership record, and can coach, teach, and train others
- Excellent in a team environment, with exceptional communication skills
- Knowledge of safety legislation, regulatory agencies, principles, and practices
- Ability to create quality and cost analysisÂ
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Provide necessary tools for repair
- Ensure safe work practices & follow safety proceduresÂ
- Dependable and reliable with a good attendance recordÂ
- Ability to streamline processes and cut waste within area of responsibility
- Lean techniques and experience preferredÂ
- Must be 18+ years old to work in an industrial sawmill environment
- Must have HS Diploma/GED
- Must be able to continuously stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders safely. The weight required to be lifted each normal workday may occasionally exceed fifty (50) pounds at a time

- Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and pre-employment physical exam
- This is a safety sensitive position for which impairment while working presents a substantial risk of death
HOURS/DAYS/SCHEDULE:
- Full time
- 40+ Hours per week
- Schedule:Â
- Monday – FridayÂ
- 3:00pm – 1:00am
- Subject to change depending on operational needs
SALARY/WAGE/BENEFITS:
- Pay: $37.00-42.00/hr
- Raises and bonus subject to operational and personal performance
- Company provided laptop, and $46.15/ pay period phone allowance
- FLSA Status: Non-ExemptÂ
