Position Summary:
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Apprentice is an entry-level position responsible for assisting experienced mechanics in maintaining and repairing fleet equipment. This role is designed to provide hands-on training and technical development in heavy equipment repair, preventive maintenance, and fleet safety. The apprentice will work under supervision to build the skills necessary to advance into a full mechanic role.
Hours:Â 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday
Essential Duties:
- Assist technicians in diagnosing and repairing fleet equipment
- Perform basic preventive maintenance
- Learn to safely operate tools and diagnostic equipment
- Complete work orders and documentation
- Follow all safety procedures and company policies
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment to ensure safety and compliance
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
- Technical school degree, or certification in Heavy Duty Truck/Trailer Maintenance with one verifiable experience preferred but not required
- A valid state-issued driver's license
- Must pass DOT physical and drug screen
- A CDL, ASE and State and/or Federal inspection certification is preferred but not required
- Command of English language to communicate effectively
- Basic hand tools are required
- Ability to maintain detailed time and parts used on work orders
- Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skillsÂ
- Computer skills needed for diagnostics
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objectsÂ
- Subject to both internal and external environmental conditions
- Subject to: standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching
