Position Summary:

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic Apprentice is an entry-level position responsible for assisting experienced mechanics in maintaining and repairing fleet equipment. This role is designed to provide hands-on training and technical development in heavy equipment repair, preventive maintenance, and fleet safety. The apprentice will work under supervision to build the skills necessary to advance into a full mechanic role.

Hours: 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday

Essential Duties:

  • Assist technicians in diagnosing and repairing fleet equipment
  • Perform basic preventive maintenance
  • Learn to safely operate tools and diagnostic equipment
  • Complete work orders and documentation
  • Follow all safety procedures and company policies
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment to ensure safety and compliance
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

  • Technical school degree, or certification in Heavy Duty Truck/Trailer Maintenance with one verifiable experience preferred but not required
  • A valid state-issued driver's license
  • Must pass DOT physical and drug screen
  • A CDL, ASE and State and/or Federal inspection certification is preferred but not required
  • Command of English language to communicate effectively
  • Basic hand tools are required
  • Ability to maintain detailed time and parts used on work orders
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills 
  • Computer skills needed for diagnostics

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects 
  • Subject to both internal and external environmental conditions
  • Subject to: standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching
