Human Services & Family Support Intern

Concord, NH | Unpaid Internship | Flexible Schedule

Want to turn what you're learning in the classroom into real-world experience that matters?

Come learn alongside the people who are helping New Hampshire children, youth, and families build brighter futures.

At Waypoint, we believe internships should be more than checking a box for school. They're an opportunity to learn, explore, ask questions, build relationships, and discover where your passion can take you.

We're looking for a curious, compassionate, and motivated intern to join our team in Concord and gain hands-on exposure across several of Waypoint's family and youth-focused programs.

What You'll Experience

As an intern, you'll have the opportunity to learn about the many ways Waypoint supports children, youth, young adults, and families—including:

✨ Family Resource Center – Help connect families with resources, concrete supports, activities, classes, and community connections.

Youth Resource Center – Gain experience supporting young people and young adults in a welcoming, low-barrier community setting.

Home Visiting – Shadow Family Support Specialists during home visits and see firsthand how relationship-based support helps families navigate challenges and build on their strengths.

Family Support – Work alongside experienced professionals supporting families with a wide range of needs and life experiences.

Your experience may include helping with family activities, preparing resource materials and concrete supports, assisting with the Diaper Pantry, supporting groups and classes, developing activity packets, updating newsletters, and engaging with families and youth.

Most importantly, you'll have opportunities to observe, ask questions, learn from experienced professionals, and understand what human services work really looks like beyond the classroom.

You'll Learn About Supporting People Through Real-Life Challenges

Our teams work alongside individuals and families navigating circumstances such as poverty, housing instability, unemployment, trauma, disabilities, health challenges, mental health concerns, domestic violence, and substance use.

You'll gain valuable insight into:

• Strengths-based and family-centered support
• Trauma-informed approaches
• Positive Youth Development
• Community resources and advocacy
• Family and youth engagement
• Cross-agency collaboration
• The importance of meeting people where they are

Who We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if you are:

• Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college or university
• Studying Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, Education, Sociology, Public Health, Early Childhood, or a related field
• Curious, compassionate, and eager to learn
• Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds and life experiences
• A strong communicator and team player
• Organized, dependable, and willing to take initiative
• Open to asking questions, receiving feedback, and trying new things

Lived experience is valued. Diverse perspectives are welcomed. And you don't have to have all the answers—we're looking for someone who genuinely wants to learn.

Why Waypoint?

Waypoint has been part of New Hampshire's story since 1850. While our services have evolved, one thing hasn't changed: our commitment to helping people find their way forward.

We believe in creating a workplace where people feel welcomed, respected, supported, and encouraged to bring their authentic selves to the work.

We believe in asking questions.
We believe in learning from mistakes.
We believe in trying new things.
We believe in supporting one another.
And we believe everyone has something valuable to contribute.
