Position Summary: Finishes whitewood case to specified color and/or finish utilizing knowledge of wood properties, finish, matching colors, and making color panels.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Use schedule to pull cases. Read tickets and/or job notes prior to finishing verifying correct finish.
  • Lift case onto finishing table.
  • Apply correct finish by following specifications by using a spray gun.
  • May wipe excess stain and/or hand brush excess stain.
  • Ability to match colors and make colors panels as needed.
  • Use sand paper to scuff frames if needed.
  • Apply lacquer to preserve finish.
  • Ability to inspect frames for runs and/or other imperfections.
  • Ability to repair white wood frames with any defects.
  • Remove frame from table and push to Frame Inspection.
  • Perform all duties safely and report any safety hazards to your immediate supervisor; including techniques for grounding / bonding where needed; ensuring filters changed according to schedule and need.
  • Complete other assigned duties as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintains neat and orderly workstation; keeps equipment clean.
  • Wear required safety glasses and work shoes; works safely and reports unsafe conditions to Dept. Supervisor. Also performs required stretching exercises.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor.


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Must be knowledgeable in finishing processes and color matching.
  • Must have ability to learn quickly and recognize parts.
  • Understand correct placement of parts, right / left sides, front / back.
  • English required for reading tickets and instructions.
  • Must be able to setup materials in pots.
  • Must be able to understand and follow a finish specification for use of correct materials.


Valued but not Required Skills and Experience:

  • Previous knowledge of furniture.


 

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Lift / Carry: Frequently lifting 50 – 100 lbs. onto and off workstation; occasionally lifting more than 100 lbs.; team lift greater weights. Must be able to lift/remove frame from worktable.
  • Standing / Walking: Must be able to stand and walk consistently during the 8+ hour day.
  • Reach / Handle / Grasp/Feel: Repetitive use of hands required. Must be able to use spray gun entire shift.
  • Bend / Lift / Stoop: Gathering supplies throughout day from various heights.
  • Push/Pull: Must be able to push frames into designated work zones; or pull with designated tow tool.
  • Environment: Indoors, controlled airflow, depending on building may or may not be air conditioned.
  • Climbing: Must be able to climb up/down ladders between 2 – 8 feet tall using 3-point contact method to reach various heights requiring sanding or finishing or to clean booth and change out filters.
  • Tool Usage: Required to use glue gun, spray gun, rubber mallet, hammer, screwdriver, channel locks, adjustable wrenches, and other sanding/finishing tools for entire shift. Use brass scraper to clean booths. Must use wash basin to clean tools.

  • Automation: Provided scissor lift for positioning in some booths.
  • Color Determination: Must distinguish colors and finishes for match, accuracy and quality.
  • Near Acuity: Requires close vision of less than 3 feet, with or without corrective lenses, for precision.
