Ability Beyond Barriers is seeking compassionate, dependable, and motivated individuals to join our team as Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) in our Community Supports program. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping individuals with intellectual and related disabilities live, work, and thrive in their communities.
Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional provides person-centered supports to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, and other related conditions. DSPs help individuals build independence, develop skills, and achieve personal outcomes while promoting dignity, choice, and community inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
Person-Centered Support & Skill Development
- Teach daily living, communication, social, and vocational skills
- Promote independence, self-determination, and community integration
- Support individuals in achieving goals outlined in their service plans
Health, Safety & Personal Care
- Ensure the safety and well-being of individuals at all times
- Provide personal care support (bathing, toileting, feeding) as needed
- Follow behavior support plans and crisis intervention procedures
Community Access & Transportation
- Assist individuals with accessing community activities and resources
- Provide safe and reliable transportation
- Maintain vehicle logs and safety checks
Documentation & Communication
- Complete daily notes, incident reports, and service documentation accurately and timely
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and families
- Ensure confidentiality and comply with reporting requirements
Teamwork & Professionalism
- Participate in team meetings and ongoing training
- Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and ethical conduct
- Support a team-oriented work environment
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- At least one (1) year of experience working with adults with disabilities (preferred)
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Active role requiring standing, walking, and occasional lifting
- Work in both indoor and outdoor settings
- Ability to assist with personal care and respond to emergencies when needed
Essential Employee Status
This position is designated as an Essential Employee role. Staff may be required to:
- Report during emergencies, inclement weather, or facility closures
- Work extended hours or be reassigned to meet critical service needs
- Support continuity of care and ensure the safety of individuals served
