The Opportunity

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for ensuring the quality of production by enforcing GMP, validating processes, and providing documentation. 


What Success Looks Like 

  • Accurate and timely testing of raw materials, in-process, and finished products
  • Non-conforming products are controlled and corrective actions are taken
  • Production areas consistently follow GMP standards
  • Equipment and environmental monitoring are properly maintained
  • QC records are complete, accurate, and up to date


Responsibilities:

Product & Raw Material Testing 

  • Responsible for all testing related to the quality of product and raw material (pH, brix, in-process product weights, label verification, moisture and water activity testing, etc.).
  • Perform all activities related to quality checks for raw ingredients and packaging materials before being brought into GMP Production areas.
  • Assist with sampling of raw materials and finished goods as per sampling procedures and release through Vicinity software.
  • Conduct Final QC checks of the finished product.
  • Responsible for the collection and maintenance of retain samples for raw and packaging materials and finished goods.
  • Compile records and interpret experimental or analytical results.

Corrective Action & Documentation

  • Responsible for controlling/holding OOS or non-conforming products and taking the necessary corrective actions to mitigate further quality risk to in-process or finished products; work collaboratively with the on-shift production supervisor and perform the appropriate escalation to senior management.
  • Document results of inspections and provide guidance on corrective actions.

GMP Compliance & Facility Oversight 

  • Enforce and monitor Production/Packaging/Warehouse areas for GMP compliance.
  • Verify the production pick list for each product before the start of production.
  • Monitor housekeeping, cleaning and sanitation, personal hygiene, and pest control programs of the facility. 

Environmental Monitoring & Safety 

  • Perform regular verification of weighing scales, thermometers, pH meters and refractometers, metal detectors, and maintenance of lab equipment and maintain records of the same.
  • Responsible for monitoring and verifying sanitation activities; complete ATP swabs and perform rinse water sampling after sanitation step (line clearance/end of shift cleaning/deep cleaning).
  • Maintain and complete all QC monitoring records as GDP.
  • Conduct or assist in air and water quality testing and assessments, and environmental monitoring program to ensure compliance with GMPs and regulatory standards.


Qualifications:

Experience & Education 

  • A diploma/degree in Food Science or a related life science discipline from an accredited college/university is required.
  • HACCP and related food safety knowledge.
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance/Control practices and procedures in a GMP manufacturing environment.
  • Previous Quality experience in a food manufacturing facility is considered an asset.

Technical Skills

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products.

Competencies 

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written in English.
  • Must be well organized and demonstrate effective time management skills.
  • High attention to detail.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Stand or walk for an extended period on a hard surface.
  • Lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Work 12-hour shifts, either day or night.
  • Be present in manufacturing environment which can be noisy, hot, cold and require PPE.
