Overview

The Staff Accountant plays a critical role in driving financial accuracy and operational excellence for our business. In this role, you’ll own key components of the close process, deliver insights that shape decision‑making, and collaborate across multiple teams to ensure our financial story is told clearly and confidently. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position, on a hybrid model, based in Dallas Fort Worth.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain comprehensive GAAP‑compliant accounting schedules, including fixed asset roll forwards and supporting documentation 

     

  • Prepare and record accurate and timely journal entries, including accruals, reclasses, depreciation, and month‑end adjustments 

     

  • Prepare and review balance sheet account reconciliations with clear documentation and resolution of reconciling items 

     

  • Build strong cross functional relationships with AP, AR, FP&A, Tax, and Operations to ensure expenses and transactions are recorded accurately and on time 

     

  • Support month‑end close activities end‑to‑end, contributing to consistent, timely close cycles 

     

  • Assist in the annual budgeting process by providing actuals, variance explanations, and schedule updates 

     

  • Support the Accounting team with projections, analysis, audit requests, and process improvement initiatives 

     

  • Jump in where needed - we’re a collaborative team, and you’ll play a key role in helping us meet deadlines and deliver business‑critical results 

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Accounting degree strongly preferred. 

     

  • Hands‑on general ledger accounting experience required, including journal entries and reconciliations 

     

  • Fixed assets experience strongly preferred 

     

  • CPA or CPA‑track candidates encouraged 

     

  • Experience in retail or a high‑volume, multi‑location environment preferred 

     

  • Based in the Dallas/Fort Worth area with a hybrid work schedule. 

     

  • Strong computer skills including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and solid Excel proficiency (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, PivotTables) 

     

  • Exceptional communication skills; able to partner effectively with teams across the organization 

     

  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment 

     

  • High attention to detail while working quickly and accurately under pressure in a fast‑paced environment 

     

  • Flexible, positive attitude with a passion for learning and alignment with The Container Store brand values 

     

  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
